dbacks_Nation - Andy Forrester

Hello, my name is Andy and I was born and raised here in Las Vegas Nevada. I am 22 years old and I currently attend UNLV as an Architecture student, I plan to move to Phoenix to finish my schooling career getting my graduate in Architecture there. I have been an Arizona Diamondbacks fan since their inaugural season in 1998, but unfortunately have yet to see them play at Chase Field.

I have always been a huge fan of baseball, and prior to the 1998 season I never had a single favourite team. Just like everyone else in the 90's, I followed the Atlanta Braves the best I could, but with them being so far away, they couldn't really keep my interest too long. When baseball expansion came out and I learned of the existence of a new NATIONAL LEAGUE team being based in Arizona, I was ecstatic. I became a Diamondbacks fan even before they took the field. The first (and only) time I ever had the opportunity to see the Diamondbacks play was here in Las Vegas vs. the Oakland Athletics, which was the Diamondbacks first spring training game after their 2001 World Series.

Shortly after the Richie Sexon trade of 2004 and the colour change of rebranding, I started to lose faith in the Diamondbacks and started following my other teams some more, such as the Toronto Blue Jays and Anaheim Angels. After the 2005 season I put baseball behind me and moved on. However, every post season kept me focused on the sport, I loved the Red Sox 2004 victory, disappointed with the Astros loss in 2005, disappointed with the Tigers loss in 2006, content with the Rex Sox winning in 2007, and had no opinion about the 2008 World Series.

Near the end of the 2009 season after seeing my dbacks suffer a horrible year, I looked back and learned more about my team and began to learn that I could love them no matter what. Even though the Diamondbacks couldn't make it to the post season in 2009, I still openly cheer their name wherever I'm at.

To make a long story short, it took me 4 years to finally accept the rebranding of the Diamondbacks, but I proudly wear Sedona Red along side of my retro Turquoise, Copper, and Purple.

I hope to enjoy posting on these boards and to become an active member in the Diamondbacks community again, I love my team and I love this sport. Go Dbacks!

Wow! What an unexpected warm welcome to the forum! I woke up to this, and had to do my research to make sure no one was pulling some sort of prank on me! What a great community we have here on this forums, I have been lurking the past few weeks but finally decided to register; glad I did!

Derrick,

Thank you for the generous offer!! I have been looking at the 2010 Season Schedule the past few weeks trying to find a good weekend to come down, and I believe that I have found a weekend game that I would like to see. It will be exciting to be able to finally see the Arizona Diamondbacks play at Chase Field, I've been waiting for the opportunity to go since 1998.

Would you mind sending me a Private Message with your e-mail address or other contact info so I could get in touch with you when the time is right?

Thank you again for the generous offer,
Andy

In case you didnt know:
At the top of your screen there is a thing that says "You have no new messages" Click that.
On the left hand side, theres a little tab that says "New post" click that
Then there should be a box that says "username" write dhall (or justin, moviegeekjn, etc) in that box, write a subject and then write your message in the body.

Have a nice one, and welcome aboard.

I sort of just realized that I have 800+ posts here at D-backs Bullpen, but have never actually introduced myself.

My name is Andrew.
I have been a D-backs fan since Opening Day of March 1998. I remember Andy Benes' first pitch against... the Rockies as if it was just yesterday.
I grew up a Cubs fan but after moving to Arizona I had always wanted a team of my own and the D-backs fulfilled that wish and I have been a die-hard ever since.
I'm a relatively quiet guy when I go to games at Chase or watch them on TV. I realize the box score at the end of the game is one thing, wins and losses, but I love studying the game as well. Statistics, strong defensive players, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, stolen bases, effective pitching, etc.
I never played much baseball myself due to health issues. But I was a four-year college athlete at a Division I school in the Midwest. I still mess around a bit athletically, and love to run, ride my bike and keep in shape.
I'm a young guy, still in my early 20's, simply love baseball - and have as much passion about the Cardinals, Coyotes and Suns as well. I love the state of Arizona and support both ASU and UA, I hold no grudges there either.
Basically, that is some stuff about me.
Sorry I have been on here for a while, but never introduced myself.
I attend games every now and then, I know a few guys that have bounced between Reno and the big club so I get tickets from time to time. Otherwise, I am somehow (Blackberry, internet, TV) keeping track of the D-backs at all teams, in-season and off-season, Winter Meetings and Trade Deadline.

Questions, comments? Feel free to message me! Thanks for reading.

-Andrew

Just found this thread, figured I'd introduce myself as well.

No joke, my name is Andrew as well (Which makes the introductions on this page 3 for 3 all Andrews). I'm 24 years old, born and raised in the Pocono Mountains, PA. In 1993 I fell in love with the Phillies team that eventually lost to Joe Carter and the Blue Jays in the World Series. That heartbreaking WS prepared me pretty well for the next decade+ of godawful Phillies teams.

I've spent the past several years playing poker as my sole source of income. In January of 09, I traveled to central AZ to watch my beloved Philadelphia Eagles romp the hapless Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Championship Game. The football game didn't go quite as planned, but after the game my friend and I made our way to Casino Arizona in Scottsdale so I could blow off some steam. It didn't take long for me to realize that there was an abundance of wealthy retirees in Scottsdale who enjoyed playing poker, but didn't play all that well. I was looking for a fresh start and an escape from the traps of my hometown, and 2 months later I moved to North Scottsdale.

In February I moved to downtown Phoenix, about a half mile north of the stadium, and I decided to fulfill my dream of becoming a season ticket holder for an MLB team. Here's the view from my seat:

I'm still a Phillies fan for life. I attended 4 games in the 2008 postseason run to the World Series, including the NLCS clincher in Los Angeles and World Series Clinching Game 5, which ranks as easily the greatest night of my life.

However, the DBacks are rapidly finding a place in my heart. Especially this first week and a half of the season, the Phils have been blowing everyone out, while the Backs have been playing exciting games almost every night. I can say for sure that I've enjoyed watching DBacks baseball more than Phillies baseball this season, and during last night's 11 inning affair with the Dodgers, I felt like I crossed the line into true DBacks fandom. I'll be slightly conflicted next weekend when the Phillies come to town, but I CANNOT wait for those games to arrive.

ValueARB is a friend of mine from a poker forum and from the casino, where he fancies himself a winning player Smile, and he steered me in the direction of DBBP. I look forward to participating with you guys throughout the forums, though the bulk of my posts will likely come in the baseball forums rather than the Anything Goes section. I'm extremely interested in SABRmetrics and in the research of baseball, and I generally spend all of my non-poker time watching random games on MLB.tv. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about a host of baseball-related topics, and look forward to engaging in conversation with all of you.

If anyone actually made it through that entire long-winded post, congratulations Smile I'm glad I didn't make it too boring for you.

Welcome Andrew... and fascinating intro (easily made it through the entire post).

I must live about 2.5 miles north of you, and the photo indicates that your seat is just a bit to the 3rd base side from where my former season ticket was (didn't renew after the horrid 2004 season and due to financial re-evaluation). Find similarities about being the "conflicted" fan--will have some of that residual feeling next week early when the Cardinals come to town, as I grew up with them when Harry Caray inflicted me with Cardinals and baseball love.

It's a heart thing... found that I had become primarily a Dbacks fan in 1999 during a series with the Cardinals when I automatically cheered an exciting come from behind Dbacks win. But I still follow both teams closely and root for both. More difficult when facing each other so main thing I root for then is for a well played, competitive game.

Anyway... welcome... gonna stop before response gets too long winded.

Welcome, Andrew!

And specifically, Andrew the Third... Just a note to let you know you're not the only Phillies fan who has "converted" and now roots for the Diamondbacks, and then the Phillies. I made the switch back in 2003, at the start of a series in Philly - which the Diamondbacks promptly lost... Oh, well.

Growing up in Philly in the 1950's and 1960's, apart from the incredible hope and even more devastating collapse of the '64 Phils, I know what you're referring to when you talk about enduring years of terrible teams... Has any other team yet joined the Phillies among the teams who have lost 10,000 games in their history?

Look forward to reading more of your posts here at the DBBP.

Stu

I am 21 years old, born and raised in the valley's of South Wales, United Kingdom (NOT ENGLAND). I am now currently a Medical student and have 3 years left until I am fully qualified. Have been lurking about on the board for the last 2 maybe 3 years and decided to join after reading a post about there being no one from Wales on the board.
Grew up hating soccer and finally found baseball on a trip to the Grand Canyon state, in 1998 when I was taken to see the Diamondbacks play the New York Mets. Where I fell in love with the Diamondbacks even though they lost 5-4.
I have been to America several times since, which now I can only afford by using my student loan but it sure is worth it to see the Diamondbacks.
This year was the first opening day I have missed since 2003, but I hope to see the Diamondbacks this summer if I can afford to get over there at the current exchange rates.
I try my best to watch most diamondbacks games but can only really watch ones that are on at a reasonable time due to other commitments. I am also a big fan of the Denver Broncos and hate the designated hitter rule.

Hello, Stu, and welcome to our happy band! I live 4.5 miles from the ballpark, so it's kind of obvious I'd be a Diamondbacks fan! Your devotion, with that of the others who dwell on the other side of the pond, is something I respect. Thank you!

(Being of Celtic stock myself, I enjoyed your little disclaimer...)

Good luck to you as you continue your studies! Let us know here if you are able to make the trip, and what game or games you think you'll attend - maybe we can meet in person at some point.
