Having already signed top outfield prospect Yorman Garcia from Venezuela the Dbacks added fellow Venezuelan Ronny Mejias as an international free agent signing.

Mejias is a switch hitting shortstop with a good looking swing that was considered one of the best hitting prospects on the IFA market this year by BaseballAmerica. He might have to move from shortstop long term but according to scouts his bat will play at several positions. .He is reported to have received a $300,000 signing bonus which is a relative bargain considering his reputation as a high ceiling player

Yeah im really surprised as well, especially at the fact that its not just scrubs that we are signing but players actually considered to be near the top of their class. Kudos to the Dbacks and lets hope this recent 'trend', if you can call it that, continues.

According to Nick there are another further two signings awaiting approval from the commissioners office and he does believe that Dipoto is taking a slightly more aggressive approach towards the international market.

In this article Nick mentions that although most media sources have listed the new signing as Ronny Mejias but that the Dbacks have registered him as Ronny Mejia which is what he will be known as from now on.

Completely OT: your avatar cracks me up. Just saw the Simpsons episode on "Waverly Hills" where the cartoon equivalent was going around checking to make sure parents of Waverly Hills students indeed lived there. Hilaripus. And, to add an extra twist, just saw "Vicky Cristina Barcelona"...

That silly grin on one of the most sadistic killer i found funny as hell. I saw that episode and the simpson's writers are brilliant for turning him into an inspector of living arrangement that still uses the same methods as the killer.

Brilliant movie and a top simpsons episode.

Even floating the idea of signing Loux at a reduced price has me shaking my head.

And you should post at the Pit more. I'm the only one there that would take Scarlett over a 46 year old woman with kids... for some reason. I need backup on that. Very Happy

No, you were talking about some random person, they were talking about Morisette (I think).

I was just backing them to piss you off. I agree the girl you were talking about was more attractive.

They were talking about Monica Bellucci. I was talking about Scarlett Johansson, then Mila Kunis when 'Skins said he likes women with talent.

Of those three, I am going to have to go with Mila Kunis, hands down.
