My sister and family are flying into Phoenix next week. We are meeting them and driving up to Grand Canyon for a few days. I would like to take them somewhere for lunch. We will be getting on I 17 in Phoenix to head north. Do you know of any good places to eat that would not be to far off the highway? Looking for something with personality. We will have all the kids so no "dives". Sister is from Chicago so something with south west flare would be good.
Any suggestions?

Fajitas could work for you.

It's located just north of Dunlap on I-17--easy exit on Dunlap and take the side road heading north and you can't miss it. (Google it for more info)

Anyone else with an idea?

Duck and Decanter is a good place for lunch. It's at the 51 and Camelback which isn't too out of the way (And you could feasilbly take the 51 most of the way as well). As my friend describes it: White Women Love it! I'm not a woman, and I like it, too. Laughing

Well... if you end up going north on the 51 and want a really great SW lunch, Juan's Authentic Mexican Food is an awesome hole-in-the wall place that the locals here frequent.

Exit on Thomas and go west a few blocks just past 16th St. Address is 1516 E. Thomas Road.

If you're taking the 17 north, I would agree with moviegeekjn, Fajitas would be a good choice.

There are a few places that are within a mile or two of I-17 exits such as; Macayos at 19th ave & T-bird (about 1 mile east of the Tbird I-17 exit), Manuels at 11th ave & Bell (about 2 miles east of the Bell I-17 exit) and Valle Lune at 33rd ave & Bell (about 1 mile west of the Bell I-17 exit).

I highly recommend it. The one off I-17 is the original and is a little dumpier than the one in Chandler.

Been there... S'ok. Combo Mexican-Asian... 19th Ave. near Greenway (if I remember right)

They'll give you some free samples if you've never been to help decide (just ask).

Glad that worked... location is easy from the direction you were heading and it matches the cuisine sought for.
