Bummer. I hate the Yankees but I did appreciate his colorfulness and admired his desire, passion and effort to win.

Just heard "rumor" on NPR -- they said they were checking on story and would be more later

Never cared for the guy, but was sorry to hear he developed dementia. It's a horrible disease. Now he able to rest at peace.

Same, I was never a fan of his, but I am relieved for him, and for his family as that is such a tough thing to watch in a loved one, and must be even more disconcerting when it's in a forceful personality such as GS. (I knew one of his sons a bit in school - my fiance knew him better, we both agree he's a good guy - and, for all the reputation the Steinbrenners have, I'm going to consider one good-guy son an important non-baseball credit to George.)

My favorite George story.

Before the ABA they had the ABL and a young George owned the Cleveland Pipers. He once offered to trade his entire team to the Pittsburgh Rens for a guy name Connie Hawkins.

Guy knew talent. Wink

Wow, a slideshow for quotes. I'm interested but I'm not clicking through that shit. Clicking through them only encourages them to keep that sort of behavior up.

Sheppard and Steinbrenner both die just days apart from each other. Two Yankee Icons.
