Aw, I love when I'm right (even though I completely lucked into it).
Loux was a shit pick. Now, I wouldn't be celebrating a D'Backs fail if we weren't getting some compensation back. I'm going to be happy with #8 next year.

Actually we'd receive the 7th overall pick next year if we don't sign Loux...so if the season ended today and we don't sign Loux, we're lookin' at the 3rd and 7th overall pick in the first round next year.

I thought you got a pick one under from what you got the year before.
We didn't sign the 7th pick, so we get the 8th next year.
That's how I thought it was.
But you're probably right.

Your thinking is right but you just mixed the numbers up. Loux was the 6th pick in the draft and therefore we'll get the 7th in next years draft if we dont sign Loux this year.

FUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKK
My bad, I keep thinking the Indians had the 6th and we had the 7th.
Mah bad.

I wonder how much input DiPoto had into picking Loux with the first round pick?

If we actually took a good player this year instead of Loux, our first this year and first next year would cost the same as two next year.

I hope Kendrick was telling the truth about spending on scouting and drafts and his desire to win, but somehow, I doubt it. I will be really bummed if we took a low upside guy again in the first.

BARRET LOUX INJURY?

D-Backs’ No. 1 draft pick Barret Loux failed the a team physical exam, according to a source in the scouting community.

“We love the player,” Dipoto said. “The scout grapevine runs rampant some times. We won’t make any comment until we are through with negotiations.”

Loux, a 6-foot-6 right-hander out of Texas A&M, was the sixth player taken in the 2010 draft. And while it remains almost certain he will sign, the size of his signing bonus could be affected by an adverse medical finding.

Georgia high school right-hander Zack Wheeler, the sixth player taken in 2009, was given a $3 million signing bonus by San Francisco.

Dammit.

With the huge amount of talent available next year especially in college pitchers and to a lesser degree college position players, will likely lead to a huge competition for the top spots in next years draft. This I believe could lead to several players realising they could have to settle for a smaller signing bonus which would bode well for the Dbacks if they get the 7th pick in addition to the third. With such competition there would be a number of extremely talented players who would be willing to sign for the slot price of the that pick which is about $2.6million, rather then slide to the latter part of the first round and sign for less the $2million.

Dammit.

I'm not sure which article came first or which one to believe but everyone's favorite writer, Tracy Ringolsby, wrote this very interesting article that contradicts that one.

Quote:
Arizona has broken off negotiations with first-round draft pick Barret Loux, a right-handed pitcher out of Texas A&M, FOXSPORTS.com learned, in a move that might have played into the firing of general manager Josh Byrnes
.
.
.
Tom Allison and his scouting staff were debating right-handed pitcher Deck McGuire of Georgia Tech and left-handed pitcher Chris Sale of Florida Gulf Coast for the selection, according to several scouting sources.

Allison, however, was overruled by Byrnes and then-pro scouting director Jerry Di Poto, now the acting general manager.

I find it hard to believe the team would seriously pursue this players signing considering their faith in his health has been shattered. They would have tailored a physical to test the areas of Loux they have had some doubts in, him failing that should only mean they pull back from any negotiations. I cannot see him being able to regain his health by August 15th which is only four weeks away and even the Dbacks are not stupid enough to sign a player that is injured.

Actually no sarcasm intended, as a matter of fact being a frequenter of mlbtraderumors i have realised you're contributions on their in particular on Dbacks related stuff is largely spot on (and for having the patience to deal with a lot of the moronic posters on there), so i did genuinely believe it was a minor error.

Magruder saying that the physical showed up a problem with Loux's shoulder which was the area where he had problems before so this is bad news for Loux
