What GM would be a good replacement should JB take the fall?

anybody that has a good analytical approach, really. I liked the idea that JB brought to the table and there wasn't many trades that he made that I felt were really bad but man, does he lack an eye for pitching.

Or maybe Dan Jennings.

Well, since the approach they wanted to take with Byrnes isn't working for them (If JB is truly going to be fired), then they should just get Jack McKeon out of bed and give him a nice big stogie to smoke on while he looks up pictures of pitchers in last weeks Sporting News, and reads the boxscores out of the Daily Post.

What about the guy who left us and went to work for Washington. Don't remember his name but might he come back?

Right. Rizzo as GM and Kirk Gibson as manager would be a good start.

I hear this Wordfork guy out in Arizona sounds like an up-and-comer.

If Byrnes is a problem, then he's not a solution.

As I posted in another thread, I wouldn't mind Kim Ng given very serious consideration.

She has almost twice as much experience as an Asst. GM as JB had when he was hired by the Dbacks. From what little I've read about her, it seems that she is highly respected among the GM's around MLB.

If Byrnes was to be fired you'd have to assume that current Dbacks Vice President and Player Personnel Director Jerry DiPoto would be among the front runners for the role. Well respected throughout the industry, Dipoto was one of the front runners for the Mariners GM job before Jack Zduriencik got the job and also was interviewed for the Nats jobs.

Its unlikely Josh gets fired but i would not be averse to giving Dipoto the job even though some may say he is too connected with the Byrnes regime to be a viable real replacement. He seems to be the most qualified individual for the role and his standing in the industry seems immense in its own right and for these reasons i think he would be a viable choice for me.

Who is the next GM? Choices could be from...

J. Dipoto
Logan White
Kevin Towers
Damon Oppenheimer (Yankees)

I vote for white or towers.

http://www.ocregister.com/articles/towers-259202-padres-year.html

Can you win the Executive of the Year award the year after you get fired?

Sure. There are no parameters here. A general manager's plants often blossom after he leaves. For reference, please type this into your search engine: Bill Bavasi and Angels and 2002.

Kevin Towers and Padres and 2010 will also do.

Towers had been the general manager in San Diego for 14 seasons, longer than any working GM had been with his team. And then, on the final Saturday of last season, he wasn't.

Jeff Moorad, the new owner, issued a stream of execu-babble that culminated with the dismissal of Towers, who had run the Padres in four of the five years they had won division championships, including their 1998 World Series visit.

Moving forward. ... Approaching the business with a strategic mindset. ... Putting our plans together, short and long term. ... There must be a Berlitz class for these guys.

Just anybody other than DiPoto. Please.
Preferably White or Towers, like Qudjy said.

I'm not sure if they are looking for a permanent GM or if Dipoto is thier guy.
