Anyone got a good site for probable pitching matchups? ESPN is showing Dontrelle on Friday night in Detroit. I was really looking forward to seeing EJax.

Article the other day said Dontrelle would be in the pen the whole 6 game trip, so is ESPN wrong or did something change? Doesn't make sense to me to throw him to the wolves in Detroit where he almost pitched himself out of baseball. Could really kill his psyche and regress from his 2 mediocre albeit successful outings so far.

I've usually found the probables listed at CBS Sports more reliable than ESPN. They have Friday as Jackson v. Galarraga.

Heartily agree that Detroit is not the place to roll the dice with Willis if he's the slightest bit iffy.

Why wouldn't you pitch Dontrelle in Detroit?
It's just another game, that happens to be against his old team.
If anything, he'd be more motivated to shove it in their faces.
If they refuse to pitch him against his old team, wouldn't that send out the wrong message to him, that he's scared to confront his problems?

I usually check the probables on a team's mlb site. Both Friday and Saturday are TBA, which says to me the team is still deciding themselves.

Swap Edwin and Dontrelle, and those are the pitching matchups for the upcoming series.

Unless he can pitch much better out of the pen than starting, then he'll stay in the rotation. Keep in mind, starters are much better than relievers... and at this point in our season, when we aren't really playing towards anything other than next year, we just need innings eaters.

He'll be slotted for the Russ Ortiz mop up role... bring him in for the numerous upcoming blow out games. He'll be better than Ortiz down there in the cheerleading factor.

Hell the way he coached EJ in that no hitter maybe he can work his coaching magic on the pen. Laughing

Looks like we'll use Dontrelle almost exclusively as a LOOGY

http://www.azcentral.com/members/Blog/NickPiecoro/88027

Quote:
The club is hoping to capitalize on the one thing he has done well: retire left-handed hitters. Lefties are hitting just .180 against him with a .539 OPS. (Righties, by comparison, are hitting .322 with a .937 OPS.)

“It’s worth a shot,” manager A.J. Hinch said. “His troubles have primarily been against right-handed hitters. If you look at how he’s handled lefties this year, he’s been pretty good. Suffice to say that’s the situations I would try to lead him towards."

A lefty in the bullpen?

Imagine that.

I think the tigers already tried putting him in the pen and he was even worse than he was as a starter, but at this point, he can't be much worse than what we have now.

Willis has only faced 13 batters as a reliever in his major league career. This is pretty much going to be uncharted territory for him. Still his splits show he's definitely way more successful against left handed hitters, so why not.

What the hay? May as well try Willis as a LOOGY. Not like there's anything to lose.
