Willis could be decent rebounder but the good thing is none of us are expecting much and we dont seem to have given up anything of note.

Either way, Detroit will be responsible for all but the MLB minimum, and Arizona will pay the minimum, the same minimum they would be paying Buckner.

Arizona actually saves money by not letting him hit free agency, and being able to get Buckner off their books.

Thought as much. I saw Dontrelle's start against Minnesota on ESPN and thought he looked decent but i wont set my expectation of him at anything but below average production. That way anything positive from him can be considered a positive.

Plus he's moving to the NL. Don't forget about that.
I don't think he'll get his form back, obviously, but he should be better than what he was in Detroit.

I literally almost threw up in my mouth right there, that is just disgusting but not beyond the realms of impossibility in the current Dbacks season of brilliant sucktitude all round.

If anyone thinks there's even the ghost of a chance of that, we need to turn up en masse at the FO and chant "Russ Ortiz! Eric Byrnes! Rus Ortiz! Eric Byrnes!" until we are given, I don't know, a million-dollar performance bond that it's not going to happen...

... again!

With the way things are going, this will be the sports section headline on Sunday:

I thought Girardi toasted Dontrelles arm. The good news is that not only should he be more effective against NL lineups, he should be able to go deeper facing the pitcher instead of a DH. He was once quite innings eater in the NL. But best of all he's a career .232/.278/.356/.634 hitter, that's a lots of offense from the pitchers spot.

Tracking the D-Train
Quote:
Before the deal to send Dontrelle Willis to Arizona was finalized, the Marlins expressed interest in luring the D-Train back to South Florida. Ultimately, the Tigers dealt Willis to the D-backs for right-hander Billy Buckner.

With Arizona, Willis gets a chance to remain in the rotation. Had the Marlins obtained the 28-year-old left-hander, he would have been an option to throw out of the bullpen.

The Marlins and Tigers were unable to find a match for a deal, so none was made. But could Willis eventually wind up with the Marlins? Don't rule it out.
The scenario that could land Willis back with the Marlins is if his struggles follow him to Arizona. If he is designated again, the Marlins likely would have interest.

Quote:
From start to start, his arm slot and leg kick would vary. When a pitcher has a cleaner delivery, like Josh Johnson, it is easy to point out what is wrong and then fix it.

The Marlins thinking is Willis can be more effective as a reliever because he doesn't have to go through a lineup three or four times. For an inning or two, pitching mechanics may not be as big a deal.

Oh yeah? Tell that to the Diamondbacks' relievers.

i heard that the tigers tried to refine his motion all the time...

mel should just "let him grip and rip" he was nasty when his right foot would go in the first base dugout.... let him watch film of when he was nasty and use that motion again

Instead its going to be:

A) Baxter's DD late for D-Train

or

B) D-Backs D-Train D-Rails DD's Opinion.

Greatest trade in DBACK history. Well at least after one game.

While the D-Train was going six shutout innings at the old ballpark our good friend Billy Buckner was down in AAA for the Tigers pitching for the Mud Hens giving up 14 hits in 4.1 innings worked, 8 ER, for his first loss he now has a 16.62 ERA for Klingers favorite ball team. Wink Laughing

I'm very happy with what D-Train's bringing. Can you say "spark plug"? There was actually some visible and audible emotion on the field.

Great pick-up. HELL yeah.

I'm changing my sig.

I agree! His positive attitude could really help out this team, IMO.

Right now they all have the Drew >Neutral
