Do we have one?

Reds have one and he's a stud.

Today I hear the Giants signed one.

I want a Cuban!

Im guessing your not referring to one of these

In all seriousness though ive previously understood our conservatism towards signing latin free agents but i think the more other clubs are getting talent and stud talents at that we are giving ourselves a competitive disadvantage. Im not saying we should be paying the 30 million pound contracts to the likes of Chapman but i would like us to once in a while go for a premium talent we like and take a calculated risk by paying a reasonable signing bonus.

Bottom line is we are hampering ourselves the longer we limit our signings in this area to a 300k pitcher when every other club is taking risks on higher ceiling talents.

The better question would be, why would the Diamondbacks be paying in pounds? Laughing

Damn it two more Cubans sign and not with us.

Me still want a Cuban!

The Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays made a pair of moves for Cuban prospects today, according to SI.com. The Blue Jays announced the long anticipated arrival of Cuban shortstop Angel Hechevarria, who signed a four year deal worth 10 million dollars.

The Rays signed first baseman - outfielder Lesile Anderson to a four year contract worth upwards of 1.725 million dollars. Anderson, 28, hit .381 with 13 home runs during the 2008-2009 season.

Hechevarria and Anderson both agreed to deals with their respective clubs a few weeks ago, but weren't announced until today.

Hechevarria is a 21 year old prospect that many expect can blossom into an above-average shortstop both with the glove and the bat -- his defense is already plus stuff. For the record, his name is actually Adeiny Hechevarria; I think the confusion is coming from the name Angel Echevarria, who was a Quad-A reserve OF with the Rockies, Brewers and Cubs in the late-90's. On a random note, a friend of mine once named his new cat after Echevarria, as he purchased the cat on the same day Angel (the OF, that is) crushed a walk-off hit for the Cubs against the Marlins.

But I digress.

Leslie Anderson is a multi-talented center-fielder (whom I heard now plays some 1B as well...?). He was the star of the CamagŁey team for years and was featured in Michael Lewis' article -- or epic, to be more exact -- "Commie Ball", which I suggest everybody reads when they find the time.

Neither one of these players really fit the Dbacks budget or plans well. Don't lose an ounce of sleep over not signing these guys.

No Cuban will sign with the Diamondbacks because of the new immigration law. There will be so many people from other teams telling them a kinds of crap, like they will get arrested if they sign with Arizona.

If you seriously believe this is true... may I suggest you adjust your tin foil cap, as the black helicopters are due overhead at any minute?

SHADOW, with our luck, this is the Cuban they'll sign... (probably for the bullpen):

You laugh but I would take him right now. Guy wants to win and is willing to spend his money to do it. But Bud and the others dont want his kind around. Too bad really. If I was a Pirates fan I would demand the team be sold to Cuban. He could fill up one of the nicest parks in baseball and make that franchise relevant again.

I found my Cuban. The Red Sox want him so he must be good also says he is ready to go straight to the bigs now. Wink

This is from MLB rumors.

Cuban righthander Yuniesky Maya is about to be unblocked and become available to sign, according to his agent, tweets the Toronto Star's Morgan Campbell. In April El Nuevo Herald's Jorge Ebro wrote that interest was heating up for the hard-throwing starter, though he has almost entirely been connected thus far to a single team, the Red Sox. At 28, Maya is a bit older than the new crop of Cubans such as Aroldis Chapman and Juan Yasser Serrano, but Maya told Terreno de Pelota upon defecting last September that after two World Baseball Classics, numerous international tournaments and six Cuban National Series, he was ready to jump straight to the majors a la Orlando Hernandez.

Pass. Good curveball, but overall sub-par to par command.
Most likely Alay Soler 2.0.

Add the White Sox and Phillies to the list of interested teams.

Still no DBACKS who feel confident in the fine staff they have assembled. Rolling Eyes

Sorry Shadow but there is almost no chance the Dbacks are ever going to be in the running to take any high upside Cuban defector signing or International Free Agent signing.

The Dbacks are not know participate in the latin american market and when they do it is low profile players who most other clubs are not interested in. Yunesky Maya is a relatively proven and experienced pitcher who will have a lot of competition for his signature which makes the possibility even more remote then ever.

This years International Free Agent market is loaded with supremely talented young hitters as well as some huge upside pitchers and while the likes of the Padres, Rockies, Reds, A's as well as the usual BoSox and Yankees will fill their boots on this talent, the best us Dbacks fans can hope for is for some scrubs to be left for us to sign at the end of the signing period.
