1. You are using ST stats for Norebto and Zavada. And what about Kroenke. He stunk in the spring, but his overall stats are decent.

2. If they are looking at ST stats, why not Jeff Bailey? he killed in the spring and has a better chance of being a productive hitter this year than Ryal (especially if he is platooned). He has more experience at 1b than Ryal and could fir there as a platoon.

3. I said the moves are only going to cost a couple games so I agree that the starters are more important (duh)

4. No question about Kennedy and Lopez. I would have questions if they were our 4 and 5 starters. As our 3 and 4 (with no one at 5), they become serious concerns. Both have to do well.

Stuff was first. Stats was second.

Jeff Bailey would make a lot of sense to this team. But he wasn't on the 40 man roster.

Ryal madethe final roster spot over Roberts. Tough choice there.

It's tough for R.Roberts. I don't care much who is in final spot.but I understand AJ hinch's decision. Ryal had a good spring to prove his ability , made something happened from slim chances. Good reward.

Nick has a nice piece from a scouts perspective on your 2010 Az DBACKS.

http://www.azcentral.com/sports/diamondbacks/articles/2010/04/03/20100403-diamondbacks-player-capsules.html

Two I found interesting.

Tony Abreu

Scout's take: "I really like him. He's a super sub for me. You might have to play him more than once or twice a week. I didn't have any history with the guy and I think that if they knew more they wouldn't have had to sign Kelly Johnson."

Gerardo Parra

Scout's take: "I'm high on Parra. I do think he's a starting major-league outfielder for somebody. He's like David DeJesus. You'd love to see more power from a corner outfield spot, but he's got a chance to hit .280 with 15 home runs, run the bases and play above-average defense."

I'm not sure where to put this, so I guess this is a landing spot.

Abreu activated, Roberts back to Reno.

Roberts has done almost twice as much as Augie has for the season in one week. Why does augie still have a job with us?

Because there is still a chance they can trade Augie and save some money. DFA him and you have to pay his salary. If they can trade him, they can always bring Roberts back in a few weeks.

Or is not having Roberts on the roster a few weeks going to make or break the season ?

If I were Roberts I would think that they don't appreciate what I did for the club while the brief stint, and Ojeda has done .... Confused Confused Confused , has he been playing??.
The guy made us win 2 times in a row. But after all it's business as usual and im not roberts..

How difficult is it to eat $825,000?

That's a mere hors d'oeuvre for a main course of $11 M, with a side order of $8.5 M...

Either that, or it's a very expensive after-dinner mint...

Exactly, it's nothing. I'd rather have Roberts.
He'll it's barely more than what we pay Bernard Gilkey yearly.

With Jackson now in Oakland - should we look at Dye in LF?

Edit - Matt Murton is killing in Japan too...

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/your-annual-matt-murton-update/
Quote:

Unsurprisingly, Murton is absolutely raking. Through 262 plate appearances, Murton ranks 12th in the entire league with an .893 OPS, with an overall line of .343/.393/.500. Murton’s 8 HRs and 12 doubles would put him on a pace for 18 HRs and 27 2Bs in a 600 plate appearance season. As our own Patrick Newman stated in one of his posts answering questions about Asian baseball, it is generally accepted that the talent level in the NPB is somewhere between AAA and MLB. Even though Murton’s line is a little batting-average heavy, he continues to show that he can hit very well in talented leagues.

Still, we may not see Murton back in the United States any time soon, as the Hanshin Tigers hold a club option on him for 2011. Unfortunately, Murton is already 28 and as such would end up playing two of his prime years out of the Major Leagues. By the time he’s able to return to the States, it may be too late for Murton to truly latch on with a team and show that he can perform at a Major League level.

We should only consider Dye if we have CY playing in FAR left-center all the time.
Dye is one of the worst fielders in baseball.

Rigth - but if you are going to have a bad OFer - its good to have two other guys with alot of range to cover up - see CY and Upton.

Yes - teh guy isnt perfect - but could be a cheap add, and a good platoon for Parra. Or maybe it doesnt matter at all - as this season is over.

Ding ding ding. Winner winner.

This team is not in the signing mode. Phoenix has a better chance of snow next week than Dye in a DBACK uni.

The goal is get to $60 million as soon as possible and keep it there.

Teams have come back from much farther back with much less time than this team hasq. And it s a very good team if it just had a decent bullpen, which is the easiest component to fix. One strong reliever can take over a big percentage of the most important innings, two and you have a whole new pen.

2005 Astros!

Quote:
In 2005, the Astros got off to a poor start, dropping to 15 games below .500 (15–30) in late May before becoming nearly unbeatable. From that low point until the end of July, Houston went 42–17 and found themselves in the lead for the NL Wild Card. The hitting, largely absent in April and May, was suddenly there, with even the pitchers contributing.

Enright gets the call

Quote:
Right-hander Barry Enright will get the call from Double-A Mobile to start against the Cardinals on Wednesday.

Enright has gained a reputation in the organization as much for his ability to swing the bat as for his tendency to pound the strike zone.

Let’s start with his pitching. He’s not a big stuff guy – he throws his fastball in the 88-92 range – and also features a slider, curve and change-up. But he’s aggressive with it, pounding the strike zone and hitting his spots.

Think of him in the Jon Garland/Jeff Suppan mold, with a ceiling as a solid, back-of-the-rotation type.

He’s having a strong year in his second stint with Double-A Mobile, where he has a 2.88 ERA with 83 strikeouts (and only 15 walks) in 93 2/3 innings.

Sounds like all of the SP on the staff except for EJ.

Is it safe to assume that Zavada goes on the 60 day DL to make room for Enright on the 40 man roster?

I think that's a safe assumption considering he's out for the year anyway... that or we'll give Benson his walking papers.

good likelyhood that Benson also winds up on the DL.
