My memory may be playing tricks on me, but I seem to remember that the rough playoff schedule was set fairly early on in previous years - like last year we knew before spring training started that the World Series would be stretching into November. Does anyone remember about when that "TBD" becomes "Division series run from Date X through Date Y depending on number of games required, LC series run from Date A through Date B depending, and the World Series game 1 is on such-and-such date" -- not that I'm planning my life around baseball, exactly, but it's the sort of thing I like to know sooner rather than later just so I know "oh, that's going to be smack in the middle of the World Series" when making plans.

So...does this sound right?

If regular season games are running through the first weekend in October, the division series games would be approximately Wed 10/6-Tue 10/12, LCS would be approximately between Thu 10/14-Mon 10/25, and the World Series would begin Wednesday the 27th? Or were they going to be going back to starting the WS on a weekend? I seem to remember there was *something* about the postseason scheduling they wanted to tweak...

The 2009 season went into November because of the WBC. The extra off-days during the playoffs only started a couple of years ago. I know Selig wants to tighten that up again starting next year. They usually solidify the schedules at the owner's winter meetings.

Okay, found this article that says Selig has put together a committee to go over this very subject.

Selig appoints panel to examine possible changes to replay, playoffs

I ended up just making said plans for a September weekend and avoiding all post-season conflicts after all.
