If we sign Borchering and Helm, and it's looking like we will, this will have been a VERY successful draft with the top 24 picks signed.

Absolutely, Borchering could be the creme de la creme of this draft for us and id we can sign another top talent in Matt Helm this will have been a fantastic draft for us. Im really excited by the potential of Schuster and im quite surprised we have managed to this sign him. Kudos to the club on this.

Just got the official press release - we signed Borchering. I've reprinted it here, though not much detail on the terms.

That's great news.
I knew he was going to sign.
All this delay was about $$$$

Great news, Borchering is a really exciting player with amazing upside. Lets hope he starts hitting well straight away at Missoula to remove any early jitters the guy could have. Davidson has struggled a bit so far but im putting to the settling in period. Here is hoping Borchering replaces Parker as the top D-Backs prospect by the time Parker gets called up i.e. hopefully sometime next year.

Sounds like he already had the Diamondbacks defense behind him.

Anyone else find the text of the caption to be tortured?

As written, it sounds as if Borchering took on the Dodgers all by himself. Hey, that deserves Flipper-zone money, at a minimum! Laughing

Yes, we all know what the writer of the caption (not TAP, btw) meant; but we can also see what he said -- and it doesn't make sense -- at least, not to me...

Arizona Diamondbacks first round draft pick Bobby Borchering takes batting practice before his new team plays the Los Angeles Dodgers during a National League baseball game on Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, in Phoenix.

Chris Owings made his debut for Missoula as a DH. He went 2-4 with an RBI double and a walk.

Latest from Nick on Helm....

D-Backs make Helm a second offer
The clock is ticking for Diamondbacks seventh-round pick Matt Helm.

Helm said he received a new offer from the Diamondbacks about a half hour ago and was given a two-hour window to make up his mind.

“There has been (a lot of dialogue),” he said. “They had made me a first offer and just now they made their second offer.

“I’m going to talk it over with the family and just see what’s best for me,” Helm said. “I don’t know right now. It’s kind of all just hitting me.”

The deadline to sign draft picks is tonight at 9 (Arizona time).

Helm, a third baseman out of Chandler Hamilton High, has a college commitment to play at Arizona. He went into the season considered a candidate to be a high-round pick, but injuries derailed his season and hurt his draft status.

It’s unclear what the Diamondbacks are offering, but Helm said last month he was seeking third-round money, which likely means a signing bonus in the $300,000-$500,000 range.

Helm is the club’s only unsigned pick among its top 29 selections. The Diamondbacks signed their top pick, third baseman Bobby Borchering, on Friday, giving him a $1.8 million signing bonus.

If Helm is truly the only pick unsigned of the top 29, that means #25 Taylor Wrenn and #29 Jacob Williams have signed. I haven't heard or read of either player signing. I'll wait for confirmation till I update the big board.

No. You're forgetting how many picks we had in the first two rounds, including the compensation round.

Our 29th selection was Marshall Brad Gemberling. He goes by Brad, for those who follow the farm closely.

This might be the best draft ever for D-backs.

It's the potential for guys like Chris Owings, Schuster, and Helms, who we signed significantly over slot to ensure their addition to the system, that will determine the stressfulness of this draft class. It's also important to find at least one serviceable regular out of those first 7 picks we had in the 1st-2nd round.

Some Helm Video

Big kid. Doesnt seem to have a power swing - but i like the simple, quiet swing vs the Harper style of all-out.
