Quote:
We know D'Backs catcher Miguel Montero has been a popular name in recent trade talks, but ESPN's Buster Olney says they could choose to deal the more expensive backstop:

Rival executives, by the way, perceive that the Diamondbacks will definitely listen to offers for Chris Snyder, who is highly respected by advance scouts but is marching steadily through arbitration and is becoming expensive.

First RJ, and now Snyder? This is starting to look like 2004 Rolling Eyes

Yeah - imagine the oppositions running game with webb and montero. And its not like Montero has been working on his catching d in VFL.

The only way i trade snyder is if you take EB and his d-a contract out of here - and i still want something good in return.

We have a 2 year window to win the World Series... trading Snyder does not do anything to help that. Hell, even thinking about it is counterproductive.

After Webb, Snyder would be the most important piece to lock in long term.

See what happens when a Democrat gets elected? Wink Razz Laughing Laughing

Seriously though, I agree with qudjy. The ONLY way Snyderman should come up in trade rumors is with EB going, without paying any of his salary, AND getting a nice return on the deal. Even then I would be hesitant. Snyder is the best catcher this team has had. They should be looking to get an extension done rather than entertaining offers of a trade.

No RJ.

No Snyder?

No Webb extension?

Could get brutal on the field.

Over my limited years of observing baseball offseason wheeeling and dealing as a fan, I have noticed that talk is cheap.

GMs are bound to listen to all sorts of deals (whether ever considering them seriously or not), and JB has kept a tight lid on actual deals... so can't get too worked up "yet"

Of course other teams are interested in Snyder. He's basically going to be a top-5 catcher for the next 5 years. After Webb, I think locking Snyder up is the most important move we can make. Should have locked him up, then CJ, and then started thinking about CY, etc.

Of course, now all of the younger players are going to want $30M deals...

Want to right the ship, trade Young for T. Buck tomorrow. My opinion, JB lost control of the team the moment he traded CQ, gave CY the money, then followed thru with the trade of Micah. Now losing another popular guy in Lyon. That said...

start with the EB bashing to balance things out.

I am thinking if the D-backs go Marlins route.
If they are not going to sign Webb, whats the point of having so-so team on the field?

Here is an interesting article about possible d-backs fire sale.

Not often you get a Mike Matheny, and a team Captain, that's still coming unto his own behind the plate.

I think we have to assume that the Diamondbacks are much closer to an Oakland A's model than the LA Dodgers model...

The Phoenix market has long been considered the most saturated sports market in the nation relative to population, incomes, and corporations. While the population is there, it doesn't matter if the majority of households are below median income. I would venture that the Oakland/East Bay market area is far superior in household incomes and major corporations, yet the A's still struggle to raise the revenues necessary to keep their players. We shouldn't assume anything other than a similar fate.

x2. I think he's as vital a piece of our "core" as anybody. The improving offensive production, sound defensive play, and intangibles put him just below Webb and Upton in my book.
