With great sadness I want to let you all know that MaryAnn Shappi, aka, Incognito, passed away this morning from lung cancer. If you all don't know, she was the mother of Sidewinders relief pitcher AJ Shappi.
Katy Shappi called a little while ago and gave me the news. There will be a viewing and service on Sunday with the burial on Monday.
If anyone wants to pass along messages to either AJ or her husband Marv on this site, I will make sure that they get them. I am going to try to fly out to CA for the service on Monday.
Moderator- I am going to post this on the Farm Implements thread as well- don't know the rules for that, but I think this should be in both spots.

Truly sad news. Thank you for letting us know -- and it's entirely appropriate to put this notice in both places.

May she find a blessed rest in the Lord.

That is terrible news. I had no idea that she was having health problems. Best wishes to the Shappi family.

I'm so sorry to hear of Mary Ann's passing. She told me when she was diagnosed with lung cancer and I'm saddened to hear that she went so quickly. Mary Ann was a dedicated mother and a woman of strong faith. Our prayers are with AJ and Mary Ann's entire family.

I am so sorry to hear this! Tho only "knowing" her from posts here and formerly on the Lupus board, she was such a bright spirit and supporter of her son and family. She will be deeply missed.

So sad. I enjoyed her posts and uplifting spirit, and of course the non-waivering support of her son. Smile

RIP MaryAnn.

Oh man, so sorry to hear the news. Seems like the good ones always get the dreaded C and go too soon. My condolences to the family.

This is very sad news. I had no idea she was ill. The bullpen will not be the same without her. I'll say an extra prayer for the Shappi family tonight.

Sad

I'm saddened to hear this. She was a ray of light on the DBBP boards as she always had a positive outlook. She will be missed here. My condolences to the Shappi family.

This is incredibly sad news. MaryAnn was such a wonderful presence on this board--and obviously a loving and dedicated parent. My condolensces to her friends and the entire Shappi family.

What a loss. It puts everything else in perspective. Just from her posts, you could tell what a terrific wonderful person she was. I hope they get the internet in heaven. My condolences and prayers to her family.

So very sorry to hear. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad The entire Shappi family has my deepest condolences. Having only "known" MaryAnn from enjoying her contributions to the message board, but knowing her strong spirit in the Lord, I also have to cry tears of joy for heaven receiving such a wonderfull spirit.

A good fan made video from the song she long used as her signature. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8Hl-em8Azo "It's not what you take when you leave this world behind you, it's what you leave behind you when you go."

What about fixing up a DBBP button to give contributions to Doug Davis cancer foundation in her name?

Saddest news. Sad I wish the Shappis strength and peace through these times of loss. I'll miss Incognito's presence and perspective on the board. RIP.

My family and I are saying our prayers for the family. She will truely be missed, and I think the button for the 49 fund in her name would be awesome. Let me know if it gets done.

I have PM'd with qudjy & Jim to brainstorm about this as well. I'll let Jim post for himself when he gets a chance, but I think he may be open to collecting donations in MaryAnn's name via PayPal. If anyone has other ideas, please share.

I have been involved for years with the annual American Cancer Society's cancer walk at South Mountain park (held every February). Sadly, I've had to carry someone's memory with me up that hill most every year and I plan to walk for our Incognito next year. I'll post info on it as the event gets closer in case anyone else is interested in participating.
