Average fans are saying we should go QB in the draft. What's the point? The org is behind Leinart, we've seen proof in Leinart, it will continue to be Leinart.

Expect an extremely defense-heavy draft. I'm hoping for either Mizzou LB Sean Weatherspoon, Michigan's Brandon Graham (would be moved to LB or would train for Bert Berry's former role), or they could trade up and get Texas' FS Earl Thomas.

It might make some sense to give McCoy, Tebow, or Jevan Snead a look if either falls to the 3rd round.

Especially not Tebow. I might be the only one in Arizona who thinks Leinart isn't garbage. I'm really not worried about him one bit. He'll be just fine.

I like the Rhodes acquisition. That's one hole fixed.

Rotoworld's take

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&hl=169234&id=3316

Quote:
Cardinals traded a 2010 fourth-round pick and a 2011 seventh-round pick to the Jets for FS Kerry Rhodes, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Jets beat writer Rich Cimini confirms.

This coming just over 24 hours since Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum stated that Rhodes would remain with the team in 2010. Though Rhodes made news for a mid-season benching, he played well down the stretch, earning his starting job back with authority. Due just over $7 million the next two seasons, he's a cost-effective replacement for Antrel Rolle. Give Cardinals GM Rod Graves credit for nice use of the fourth-rounder acquired for Anquan Boldin.

Giants gave $37m, including $15m guaranteed to Rolle? Really? What a crappy signing.

I don't think McCoy or Tebow will ever have much success. I doubt they would be around for either of the third round picks. It could be worth taking a gamble if we don't sign a backup for Leinart, though.

It's important to remember the Cardinals still have Rashad Johnson developing at safety and Cody Brown coming back from injury (not to mention Will Davis, who barely played last year).

Quote:
Arizona feels the shake, rattle and Rolle of a weird offseason.

Kurt Warner and Anquan Boldin are gone, and defensive cornerstones Karlos Dansby and Antrel Rolle are too. Kerry Rhodes is in, but the Cards have some recovering to do. Strange days in the desert, and Ken Whisenhunt has been channeling his inner Steeler to makes sure he doesn't start believing the sky is falling.

"When I was in the AFC Central with Pittsburgh and Baltimore -- now it's the AFC North, of course -- I saw the Steelers lose Carnell Lake, Levon Kirkland, Rod Woodson, Jason Gildon, I'm sure there were others, and what did they do? They developed their own players. There's a lesson in that. The good teams are the ones that have a plan, and our organization has shown it's good at developing young players.''

Part of that development plan, this year, was making a trade for a 28-year-old safety instead of developing one in-house. The first thing the Cards did when they knew they might lose the unrestricted Rolle is talk to the Jets last weekend at the Scouting Combine; might Rhodes be available? And he was, despite the Jets' protestations to the contrary. The Cards were surprised at the amount of money Rolle, who wasn't even the best safety on his own team (Adrian Wilson was), earned from the Giants, who signed Rolle for five years and $42 million.

As it turned out, Rolle and Dansby broke the bank, the same way those Steeler guys did when foes wanted to buy pieces of the Steelers by buying a starter. Now Arizona has to hope Steve Breaston covers for Boldin, Matt Leinart for Warner and Rhodes for Rolle. At linebacker, the developmental pool is weak, so the Cards will bring in former Steelers (surprise!) Larry Foote and Joey Porter this week. Porter's more of a freelance rusher, while Foote is a run player almost exclusively. The problem is that neither does the sideline-to-sideline stuff Dansby did.

On the bright side -- there is one? -- Wilson and Rhodes should combine for an excellent 1-2 punch at safety. I talked to Rhodes Sunday night, and he said he'd already gotten an enthusiastic text-message from Wilson. "We've got the two best safeties playing together in the NFL,'' Rhodes said. "I can cover, he can cover. I can blitz, he can blitz. I can play free safety, he can play free safety. I can play strong, he can play strong. It's going to be a great combination.''

It'll need to be.

Darren Urban / azcardinals.com this morning wrote:
So the news comes down that the Cards have made a contract offer to restricted free agent quarterback Charlie Whitehurst. The Seahawks have as well. Interesting, because Whitehurst would cost a third-round pick if he leaves as a free agent and the Seahawks donít have a third-round pick. That means they have agreed to take something else in return, which makes me hope the Cards have also worked out something that would cost them something less than a third-rounder. That I donít know. If they havenít, obviously the Chargers would rather have a third-rounder than something lower, and theyíd want Whitehurst to pick the Cards. But the power is in the playerís hands in this regard.

That aside for a moment, letís say the Cards convince Whitehurst to sign their offer and he eventually comes to Arizona. This doesnít necessarily mean Derek Anderson wonít. In fact, I can see a scenario where the Cards bring in both Whitehurst and Anderson with Matt Leinart ó especially if they arenít thrilled with the aside-from-Sam-Bradford QBs in this draft. Anderson would almost certainly come in on a short-term deal in that regard. Now, you still have to convince the free agents that itís a place to be despite other guys who are trying hard to find a place to play. Leinart, Anderson and Whitehurst are all desperately trying to get and stay on the field.

Leinart will be the starter, no doubt.

I think its just more of an insurance if he goes down or plays like uh..Derek Anderson did this past year for 8 weeks.

I see no way Anderson takes the job from him in training camp.

Derek Anderson and Coach were on two separate radio stations / interviews this afternoon, and both said that Derek's job is to be the Matt's backup and also to push Matt. Matt's the starter this year unless he loses the job by poor performance.

I'm really excited for this year. Well, six more months left of Niner fans thinking they're locks to win the division and hearing Cards "fans" saying how much of a bum Matt Leinart is.

Good signing by the cards, though a bit expensive at 3-years $17.5m.

The signing of Porter takes the pressure of the cardinals in the draft a little bit. Before they signed him they had to address the starting spots for OLB, ILB, NT and quality depth in QB,WR,CB and OL in the draft. With Porters signing they can concentrate on finding top quality ILB and nose tackle in the first couple of rounds and then draft to fill areas lacking quality. If i had my say now id like this type of draft.

1. Sean Weatherspoon- ILB
2. Cam Thomas- NT
3a. Rob Gronkowski- TE
3B- Brandon Spikes- ILB
4. Akwasi Owusu-Ansah- CB
6. John Skelton- QB
7. Brandon Carter- OL

But then again what does a brit know about Football.

McNabb to Arizona in 2011 to keep Fitzgerald?

Looks like Matt better perform at a high level this year.
