The D Backs have the largest lead of any division leader again.

Its better to be lucky than good but not good to be lucky.

Or something like that. No clue where I heard it.

Return home brings hopes of first place
Dodgers gear up for decisive 10-game stretch beginning Friday

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers have spent five days over the past two weeks of play tied with the D-backs for first place in the National League West.

But they have never taken over sole possession of first, an elusive spot Los Angeles has held only one day all season -- when the club sported a 3-1 mark on April 4.

With the D-backs embarking on a 10-game road trip while the Dodgers prepare to host 10 straight at Dodger Stadium, this stretch could be the period Los Angeles finally takes over that top spot -- and maybe even breaks the .500 mark it has been below since a win improved the club to 27-27 on May 30.

The Dodgers will oppose a pair of struggling teams, the Nationals and Giants, that are a combined 41 games under .500 in consecutive three-game sets before opening a pivotal four-game series against the D-backs that could make a big dent in the standings -- and, just as importantly, the psyche of one of the clubs.

Worst division ever? NL West making a run at that honor

John Shea, Chronicle Staff Writer
Sunday, August 3, 2008

As it stands, the NL West isn't just the worst division of the 2008 season. It's a candidate for the worst in baseball history. That says a lot, considering divisional play has been alive for 40 years and we've had a total of 220 division races.

Read the rest here.

Fixed that for you fans of the NL WEST HOME to the best pair of contenders in AAAA baseball. Hell I dont think either of these teams could win the PCL this year.

Though the overall winning percentage of the division has actually increased since the article quoted above, from .453 to .459 - the same as it was in 2005. Not much of that is attributable to the recent results from us and LA, of course...
