On espn radio this morning Mike and Mike were talking about Zito's contract being the worse contract in sports!

From the Letters to the Green:

Quote:
An alternative?
Editor - So I'm sitting in the stands by right field at AT&T, watching Barry Zito lose his fourth consecutive game. Rookie John Bowker catches a flyball and throws a perfect strike to home to hold a runner at third. A fan yells, "Hey, Bowker, can you pitch?"

"We came out and we capitalized on Webb's mistakes. They gave me a lead of 3-0, and I feel like shit. I let them back in the game. I gave them two runs in a shutdown inning, and then I went out in the fourth and gave up a hit to Webb."

Zito got shelled in SF's 10-1 loss at home to Cinncinnatti.

3.0 IP 7H 8ER raising his ERA to 7.53 while falling to 0-6.

All the more reason that Paul Hagen is an idiot.

Josh would never have committed $126 million to that trainwreck nor would he ever have wanted to.

The latest on Zito from SF:
Quote:

The central question: Do the Giants continue to let Barry Zito get his brains beaten every time he takes the mound, or do they take what certainly will be an embarrassing public-relations hit and remove their $126 million pitcher from the rotation and try to get him right?

"We're going to get together here," Bochy said. "We've got to do something different. There's no doubt about that. We can't keep doing what we're doing. We need to get together and get a game plan on what we think is best."

That meeting will be a direct result of Zito's awful three innings in a 10-1 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. He threw 39 pitches in a six-run first. Although he was hurt by flimsy defense, Zito nonetheless seemed almost incapable of getting an out.

SFGate

Also according to the early edition of ESPNs recap, Zito was booed often during Sunday's start.

Quote:
Zito, winless in his first six starts for the first time in his career, gave up eight runs and seven hits while walking three in only three innings. The left-hander, who signed a $126 million, seven-year deal prior to last season, was booed frequently by the crowd at AT&T Park during his shortest outing of the year.

Will not be surprised when Giants give Zito the B.O.N.D. treatment... find some lingering hangnail injury to put him on the shelf a while. (At least, if they have some kind of insurance clause on the guy)

As far as I know, and everything I've heard, Zito is a good guy. Like Qudjy said earlier, you almost feel sorry for him.

Sure he makes a lot of money, but I'm sure he is bumming out big time right now.

He's a Giant, so of course fuck him. But still....as a human being, I still feel a little empathy.

Dudes heart is not in Pitching anymore. He should work out a buyout and go play guitar.

He played guitar on his sisters new CD.

Comes from a music family.

Amen to that. Work out a buyout that's fair to both parties, save your dignity, and do what you love. It can't get any better than that.

Nice...

Barry Zito-S-Giants Apr. 28 - 12:26 pm et

The San Jose Mercury News reports that the Giants could move Barry Zito to the bullpen.

It's either that or start skipping his spot in the rotation. Even though Kevin Correia went on the disabled list on Sunday, the Giants could prefer Pat Misch to Zito as a fourth starter. Zito has six years and $112.5 million left on his contract. Awesome.

Pretty brutal, considering that the site is hosted by the on-line version of the SF Chronicle... Shocked

The right move for Zito at this point is to turn into a cartoonish villain. I'm thinking a move extreme version of this guy. He should refer to himself in the third-person and constantly mention how rich he is. Oh, and how much he hustled the Giants.

With Zito, its all in his head. Ever since he signed that contract he's been trying to be more than he was. He tinkered with his motion and tried to become more of a power pitcher coming into his 1st spring training as a Giant. He didn't stop there, he's tinkered with his motion every way possible since then except to go back to throwing the way he did in Oakland.

He needs to relax, find ways to turn off the noisemaker inside his head, and go back to throwing baseballs using his old motion from Oakland. I don't think his velocity is down from being physically done, he's creating too much tension in his arm from allowing too many thoughts racing through his head. Overthrowing creates additional tension and gets the mechanics out of whack.

Barry needs to quit trying to fix himself and let his coaches do that for him. Time in the bullpen is probably the best thing for him now. Some quiet bullpen sessions with Rags might do wonders for the guy.

Oy! Don't help him! Shocked I like the fact that's he's 0-6, out of the rotation, and costing the Gnats an arm and a leg -- and especially an arm! Wink Razz
