And despite 29 turnovers, Wisconsin-Green Bay holds on for a two point victory, even after their two best players had fouled out. How important are free throws. Green Bay 32-36 Shocked
69-67 Green Bay - Upset of the day!

This has got to be the strangest first half I have ever seen in college BB. West Virginia leads Kentucky 28-26 at the half. NONE of those 28 points have come on 2 point FGs. They have 8 Threes and 4 Free Throws. Shocked
First 2 pointer comes at 18:06TG in the second half.

Good to see W. Va. beat the evil empire of Ky. Now a truly wide open Final Four no matter who wins tomorrow.

And good to see you again, jn.
KY should have won this game easily and the announcers said the Bluecats youth and inexperience finally caught up with them. THe closest the Blue Grass boys could get was 4.

I have lost more money in bracket pools over the years by under-estimating Michigan State. I do have one team in the Final Four (West Virginia) and could get two if Baylor wins (not looking good at the moment). The best I can hope for is a third place showing in one of the two pools I'm in, which would at least bring me back double my entry fee.

I read that every 4-year player to play for Izzo at MSU has played in a Final 4. That is a staggering stat. This might be his best coaching job.

I agree with you. Does being number 1 really matter?
Case in point. 1984. Washington and BYU are rated #1 and #2. BYU goes to the Holiday Bowl, Washington can go anywhere it wants. They can go to the Holiday Bowl and play BYU (payout $500,000), but instead they accept a bid to the Orange Bowl (payout $2,000,000). Washington humiliates Oklahoma 27-7 knocking Brian Bosworth to his ass most of the night. Meanwhile, a half-baked Michigan team goes to San Diego and gets stuffed by powerful BYU. The two teams share the national title.
It's all about money. It usually is in just about everything in this life.
*
And don't get me started about this BCS nonsense. If there is a "playoff" game between the top two teams, it should be settled in one of the major bowls on New Year's Day.

The NBA, NHL, and NCAA have their regular seasons and they are meaningful in their own way. I think there are too many playoff teams in the NBA and NHL, and maybe MLB too, but if that makes money then that's what it's all about anyway. But beyond that, if you're a fan of the NBA and NHL that gives you more games to watch so that's fine too.
Seems to me though, that if the Coyotes were to make it to the Stanley Cup Final (in June), imagine going to the game in 110 degree weather and then going inside a cold hockey rink. I'd be afraid of my health.

How would you factor in the bowls in a football tourney?

you could have say for a 8 team tourney

rose winner vs sugar winner
orange winner vs fiesta winner
then the 2 teams left play in the championship

Usually the pac-10 champion meets the Big-10 champion in the Rose Bowl. What would happen to your tourney if, say, both USC and Ohio State finished undefeated and 1-2 in the polls? Would one of them have to play in some other bowl? I don't know if, currently, there is some similar kind of conference agreement for the other three bowls. Once upon a time, the Cotton Bowl was one of the big four on New Year's Day. TImes have changed, I guess.

yes usually pac 10 vs big 10 in the rose but with the bcs they can pick any team for the top bcs teams in the playoff thing I suggested obviously if USC and Ohio St were 1 and 2 they would be in different bowls

Long before the BCS, Jeff Sagarin created what I have always believed was a fair rating system which could be used for tiebreakers in case two (or more) teams won their New Year's Day bowl game and finished 1-2 in the polls.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Sagarin
www.tima.com/~jsagarin/sports/cfsend.htm
Under his system, if Alabama and Florida had finished the season undefeated and 1-2 in the polls, Alabama would be the national champion. I know this would go over like the black plague in Gainesville but it preserves the tradition of the big bowls being the grand finale of the college football season.
Then, too, in our capitalist society, to hell with tradition if you can make more money doing something else.
