I want your honest opinion on this everyone.

This is my 40-man.

I need to figure out a 25-man and a starting lineup. I currently have both, but want your opinion on what YOU would do if you were me.

Thanks for the help! Smile

Houston Astros????

Im probably not the best person to comment, as i dont know much about how the sim league works - but here is my shot.

SP: Roy Oswalt (R)
SP: Brandon Backe (R)
SP: Andy Pettitte (L)
SP: Matt Albers (R)
SP: Greg Maddux (R)
SP: Jose Contreras (R)
RP: Oscar Villarreal (R)
RP: Chad Bradford (R)
RP: Aaron Fultz (L)
RP: Trever Miller (L)
RP: Troy Percival (R)
RP: Yasuhiko Yabuta (R)

Basically the top 14 less Woody Williams and Bullington - i dont think he offers much for a sim league - but i could be wrong. I dont know anything about yabuta, and little about albers. 12 pitchers might not be enough.

Catchers:
C: Brad Ausmus
C: Humberto Quintero

1B: Adam LaRoche
1B: Tony Clark
2B: Tadahito Iguchi
2B: Chris Burke (2B, 3B, CF, RF)
3B: Ty Wigginton (3B, 1B)
SS: Miguel Tejada
SS: Adam Everett

LF: Carlos Lee
LF: Luis Gonzalez
CF: Torii Hunter
RF: Lance Berkman (1B)

I dont think you have room for sosa - or maybe Burke could go...

Edited - i counted wrong (dammit)

Can you make a trade or pick up another catcher? You have one spot open on your 40 man. Ausmus can't hit at all. You'd do better with almost any replacement.

The Astros were assigned to him. I like Shoes idea. Try and see if you can get Montero. And I agree in droping Woody Williams. Drop Gonzo since he may not even have a team this year with what it looks like right now. See if you can get Salazar in a Montero deal. Or Silboroughs.

BTW, hes trying to win now not think about the future just so you guys know.

Yeah we're simming on either 2k8 or Baseball Mogul, so the fact that Gonzo might not be w/ a team Opening Day means very little.

I could also probably acquire Miguel Olivo or Matt Treanor and a prospect for Albers or Backe, so the Ausmus problem is easily fixed.

I actually have so far been contacted on my interest in trading for Mike Piazza, Kurt Suzuki, Ramon Castro, Miguel Olivo, Matt Treanor, John Buck, or Javy Lopez. I'm also gonna look into the availability of defensive whizz Yadier Molina.

Ewww... not sure who i like out of that list. These sim things are tough. I have no idea what the computer would think of Lopez or Piazza. Castro or Suzuki i think would be a good choice.

I'm kinda leaning towards Yadier, Piazza, Suzuki, and Lopez in that order.

I too am hesitant over Piazza and Lopez...

Why no castro? How does Molinas defense help in a sim game? I would think defense would be less important - and Piazza would almost surely be hurt at some point.

Can you work a deal for Montero? You need a backup catcher right? Um... let me turn on my 2k7 baseball game and Ill tell you what (last years) overall ratings are for those 4. I think Piazza and Lopez are done though.

i already checked them on 2k.

No, a deal for montero would be near impossible, as the Dbacks GM knows about as much baseball as I know professional curling, and as a result refuses to trade with anyone.

As for the defense, that would help for SBallowed% and for wild pitch blocking. Molina's bat is also not too shabby...

I still like suzuki or Castro, with molina 3rd. I dont think Piazza or Lopez will be good if you are considering D that highly.

I actually just completed a trade for Suzuki, lol so that's settled.

I'm going to update my 40-man once the trade gets processed.

So it looks like I'm looking at a lineup of:

1. Iguchi
2. Tejada
3. C. Lee
4. Berkman
5. Hunter
6. LaRoche
7. Wigginton
8. Suzuki
9. Pitcher - 1. Oswalt 2. Pettitte 3. Maddux 4. Contreras 5. Williams/Backe

Not bad i guess. You didnt have a great deal to work with, and i think you did pretty good to get what you did. Astros is a tough roster / farm to work with. WHo did you trade for suzuki.

Royals Get: P Matt Albers
OF Reggie Abercrombie

Astros Get: C Kurt Suzuki
OF Derrick Robinson

I had no need for Abercrombie, and I think Derrick Robinson's a better prospect anyways. Albers will probably have a terrible ovrl anyways, and w/ 7 starters he wasn't all that vital to me.

Oswalt, Wigginton, and prospect Josh Anderson (solid contact, very good speed, vitually no power.)
