I don't see this anywhere else.

link

Players included in the Haren deal: Carlos Gonzales, Aaron Cunningham, Chris Carter, Brett Anderson, Greg Smith, and Dana Eveland. The Diamondbacks are also set to receive a second player from Oakland.

In a separate deal, the D'backs are sending Jose Valverde to Houston for Chad Qualls and infielder Chris Burke.

Discuss.

Edit: Changed the thread title to reflect the topic being just the Haren trade

so we gave up:

Included in the trade to Oakland are pitchers Brett Anderson, Greg Smith and Dana Eveland (aquino, ponch, vargas) along with outfielders Carlos Gonzalez and Aaron Cunningham and first baseman Chris Carter (CQ7).

i think we did alright, considering the time and control we have haren!

Sweet, Webb-Haren Cool

Thank you for the monster season Valverde, I'll miss you. Don't care for the trade much, though.

We'll give him a standing-O for you when he comes to town. Truly great guy that Jose, but he's not likely to repeat his '07 in '08.

Salary dump? I wonder if the AAA guy was the centerpiece of this trade for the D-backs. Those who track minor league players more may be able to enlighten us. The two major leaguers, while useful, don't look like comparable value.

The Valverde deal came out of no where (meaning no rumors or anything). Surprised not to see Bonifacio, but the Callaspo trade makes more sense.

Re: Haren deal:

Holy shit we gave up a lot. There's a lot of quality and quantity there. Cunningham and Carter are legit position prospects (after all, we gave up Quentin to get Carter). Eveland is good too, though in my mind he's a guy comparable to Petit/Edgar/Nippert so we were dealing from a surplus. I guess that's the price of acquiring a top, cheap, pitcher these days.

Anyone know anything about the second player we're getting from the A's?

WTF????????

Wow. Beane sure got a haul. I've been a Qualls fan for awhile, though last year was meh IIRC. [EDIT: which I don't Embarassed ]

Jeez... wish we could've kept Anderson et al, but... oh well.

I'm stoked to see how far a Webb, Haren, Johnson front 3 takes us into the playoffs.

Gonna miss Papa Grande. Crying or Very sad But he's probably not going to repeat '07.

From Rotoworld:

Quote:
RHP Juan Gutierrez was traded from the Astros to the Diamondbacks in a four-player deal.
Well, that definitely evens things up a bit. Gutierrez, whose name wasn't included in the initial report of the deal, was right there with Felipe Paulino as one of the top two pitching prospects left in the Houston system. Of the two, he's the better bet to last as a starting pitcher. The 24-year-old could use at least another three months in Triple-A, but he has a chance to be a solid No. 3 or No. 4 for the Diamondbacks in time.
