If they had a Farewell Gonzo day on October 1st, would you go?

I'll take the unmarked option 4, undecided.

I would go to cheer for him as a way of saying "Thanks for all you have done for our team and our community."

I would cheer all the more if he either accepted a reduced offer and a platoon status (with the caveats mentioned elsewhere about Melvin and platooning); or recognized that this team is ready to move on, and so accepted this decision (with grace) and parted ways amicably for now.

There's no way that I'd want him back in his present capacity.

In his present capacity (ie: coming back business as usual), there would be no "Gonzalez Day to Say Goodbye" on October 1. This question is premised on the supposition that Gonzo and AZ decide to part ways.

Just 'cause I'm awake don't mean that I'm thinkin'! Wink

Once again, TAP has to explain the obvious to me... NOW I get it...
(Thanks, TAP -- and your patience is appreciated...)

Or, more succinctly: Duh! Twisted Evil

that's exactly what i wanted to say, but said better.

i think we should actually do a meetup for the board at that game. drink a couple beers, cheer him one last time, then drink more beers.

If Joe Torre had played his infield halfway (instead of on the grass) - as Tim McCarver implied that he should, given Rivera's cutter tending to jam lefties - Gonzo's' legacy might instead have been that he choked in the 7th Game.

It is, Mr. Chairman, with the greatest of enthusiasm, that I endorse this proposal, and announce my whole-hearted support for such a noble effort. I call upon all who enjoy the camaraderie of this esteemed community to join our respected colleague, the honorable Sen. McCray, in hoisting a few as the '06 season concludes.

I reserve the remainder of my time; and move that, without objection, my remarks be entered into the record. Thank you.

I would definitely make an effort to go. Despite my recent feelings on him acting like a spoile brat and taking up roster space, he has always been one of the players I most respect on this team. He was amazing for us in 2001 and was really the 3rd MVP for our team that year. I would rather not have him around next year, mainly because I can't see Melvin resisting playing him more than he should, but I do appreciate everything he's meant to the franchise.

Absolutely. The guy has ben the one constant since year 2. 60 Bombs in WS Champ year. It started to go south in '04 with the dropped pop-up and tussle with RJ, but aside from that and some recent flare-ups, the guy's been everything we could've asked for and more.

The first meeting is today. It's either going: part-time role; or sayanara.

But these days, I'm expecting them to announce they're parting ways, Gonzo day, and then in the off-season they resign him and he gets another go round.

Assuming Gonzalez and the D-Backs part ways and hold one last goodbye party on Oct 1, you couldn't keep me away or shut me up. In spite of my vocal resentment of his recent childish behavior (accepting one's mortality isn't easy, especially for athletes), I greatly appreciate his past contributions to this organization and would love to see him go out on a high note.

Gonzo, be mature with your departure and come back when the physical realities set in and you're ready to be a part of this organization without bat and glove.

Though already trying to split time between a Tai Chi workshop and Pedro Almodovar film retrospective that day, I'd fit a Gonzo farewell tribute in somehow.

If the ticket was good enough and free. I wouldn't clap for him, though.

Animosity would be if I went there and booed him - I'm not going to do that. I hope they have a proper Appreciation Day for all the people who are Luis Gonzalez fans. That said, I'm not a Luis Gonzalez fan, and would not pretend to be.

Here's another way of looking at the situation...

We are Diamondbacks fans. On a "Luis Gonzalez Appreciation Day," we're not (necessarily) Luis Gonzalez fans -- but we are showing our appreciation for the contributions he has made during his time as a Diamondback.

Would that work for you?

I already had tix to the last game on Oct. 1 but decided (I'm a big Gonzo fan) I better get tix to the Sat. game as well. I will be there to more than likely see Counsell in his last game(s) as a Diamondback as well (and Miggy too perhaps).

It's they when something's done you don't like. It's we when its something you like.

Thats cool. You from Chicago originally, or does your brother just live there now?

I'll be there too.

Oh, no. We're both 5th generation Arizonians. He's going to law school at Northwestern. I helped him move out their in July and got to watch the D-Backs play at Wrigley.

Not me, this'll be the first year that I don't get to at least one game at the BOB since 1998.

I still have a good seat this Sunday at Dodger Stadium though. That's two D'backs-Dodgers games I get to go to this year so I guess it's not all bad.

Wow, I'm impressed that you're a 5th generation native. I'm only a 3rd generation native. My greatgrandfather came on horseback from Georgia and meant to go all the way to CA but stopped and settled in Winslow. Not so many natives around these days with so many people moving from out of state. My cousin (Loren Howard) went to Northwestern and played football and transferred here to AZ for his final season but hasn't played yet as he has been injured. I've only gotten to see play in one high school game and one Northwestern game I saw on TV a couple of seasons ago.

Dangerfield, I didn't think you were being mean.
