Well, Upton didn't pay off a whole lot.
But I know that I am going to draft him early, this year, lol. _________________ Life is fantastic when you're me. lol.
Studying hard to become the GM of the Diamondbacks. Good luck to me.
My whole bench hitters consist of Jarrod Salty(not gonna spell that out), Rick Ankiel, J-UP, and CY. I also plan on drafting one of Evan Longoria, Jay Bruce, Colby Rasmus, or Cameron Maybin during our free agent draft this offseason. _________________ The Original Wannabe Sheriff 2010 SHERIFF HR TICKER: 24

If I was in a keeper league my answer might be yes.
Could you have his brother at 2nd and him in right? that might be a wise choice imo cuz his brother did good for the Rays this season. I think Justin is due...then again thats my name and he is almost exactly 2 years younger than me _________________ Per Mare, Per Terras
Speaking of JUpton, I just traded for him in my NL only keeper league.
It's standard 5x5 league (R, HR, RBI, SB, AVE; W, ERA, WHIP, K, SV), with $260 budget. In some ways, it mirrors real life baseball, as each player has a contract and a salary, and you decide if you want to extend him or not
If a player has 08 status and $ 1 salary, that means I have to decide before the 2008 starts whether I want to keep him for 08 only for $1 (meaning I have to drop him after 08 ), or extend him for $5/year--but the salary goes up before 2008.
Thus, If I have Webb for $1, 08, that means I can keep him for $1 in 08 and lose him after 08 ; or if I wanted to keep him through 2010 (and give him a 3 year extension), his contract would become $16, 11X--and his contract would be $16 for each year I own him (08, 09, 10, 11)...
Finally, here's the kicker: if I want to drop Webb after 08, I'm penalized half of his contract (meaning $8 ) for each year of the contract I'm dropping... so I'd lose $8 in 09, 10, and 11, and so my auction budget would be $252 ($260-$8 ). Complicated, I know, but these contracts make it so that you cannot evaluate players without knowing their contracts...
Anyhow, I made this trade tonight
I gave up Cole Hamels (08, $1) for
Justin Upton (09, $5), Felipe Lopez (08X, $15), Chad Tracy (08X, $11) and Matt Murton ($8, 08X)
Basically, I was going to extend Hamels for 2 years, and have him as a $11 player for 08, 09 and 10. Instead, I get Upton's future, plus I get 3 guys whom I have to release at the end of 2008
The real kicker is that if I release Lopez, Tracy and Murton BEFORE my draft this year, I'd be on the hook for half of $34, or $17, so my draft budget would be $260-$17 = $243
In other words, I gambled that Lopez, Tracy and Murton can contribute in 2008... and that Upton becomes a superstar. We'll see what happens... _________________ "Those whom the Gods wish to destroy, they first call promising." Cyril Connolly, 'Enemies of Promise'
