Nick Piecoro this morning wrote:
Carlos Quentin said a little while ago that he’s going to have to wait and see how his hamstring feels tomorrow, but he didn’t sound overly optimistic about his chances of playing.

If it is, indeed, a DL situation with Quentin, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to see uberprospect Justin Upton get the call to the majors shortly.

Let’s say he does need the DL. Unless they’ve already told Upton to get on a plane just in case – which I suppose is possible – he probably wouldn’t make his debut until Friday in Los Angeles.

I think it might be time. Regardless, we need a fresh body in the bigs - whether it is Upton or someone else.

it is easier to play than RF and im sure they would want to make it easy as possible for him....remember he has only been an outfielder for a year and a half (and change)

I'd say play Upton in RF. I think you have forgot how clueless Byrnes looks in RF.

Yeah, but they have been playing him in RF, and he hasn't played any LF, AFAIK. It would be even more of an adjustment to stick him in LF. Also, the organization definitely likes Byrnes more in LF than RF, justifiably so. He seems to play his best defense in left.

The article said, "Upton is expected to fly out early this morning to join the Diamondbacks." Depending on how early "early" is, I'd think he might be able to make it. Whether he'd be ready, I don't know. I wouldn't be surprised to see DaVanon start and Upton be used as a pinch hitter or late-inning replacement.

A friend of mine told me he was looking at flights from Mobile to SD last night and there was a flight that would get him in at 10:30 AM

I don't think he'll play today. My guess is Davanon gets the start, and Upton begins his major league career Friday night in LA.

I mean, fly all morning, get off a plane, rush to the ballpark, and face Jake Peavy in a non televised game. I can't think of a WORSE way to start him off. I don't think they'll do that.

That should be addressed. The game isn't on TV and it's a road game (not that they black out home games anyway).....that just doesn't make sense.

I'm assuming they wouldn't bring him up this early if he isn't going to play. So, this is pretty much going to make him ineligible for ROY next year.

What exactly are the rules on that? It's "so many" AB's, right?
