Also, Hedo and Childress also are current and former clients to Lon Babby, who's hiring is imminent.

Looks like the Suns have their very own Moorad now... Rolling Eyes

San Antonio Spurs executive Dell Demps and former Portland Trail Blazers assistant GM Tom Penn have emerged as the two frontrunners for the Phoenix Sunsí general managerís job, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

MO, Penn is regarded as a master of the salary cap. For a financially cautious franchise like the Suns, he might be a great fit.

Sarver was on one of the local afternoon talk shows recently (cant remember if it was 620 or 910) and said they are going to hire a scout who focuses solely on NBA players, acting in a similar capacity to what the draft scouts do. Going with that type of structure, it would seem to make more sense with a guy like Penn as the GM rather than Demps, cap expert vs scouting. I didn't hear him state the new scouting position title, so I don't know if its going to be as meger as some type of scout or assistant GM, nor have I heard any speculation as to who may fill the position.

For anyone who watched Sportscenter during the whole "Where's LeBron Going" saga, Tom Penn was hired to explain the salary cap to the viewers. He came across as extremely intelligent, and knew what he was talking about. Unfortunately, had to dumb it down for the other "experts" in the room. Go figure.

I would approve that hire though. He and Kevin Pritchard were great together in Portland, really turning them around. Aside the Darius Miles debacle, Portland is in great shape because of them, and I still don't know why both of them are free agents now... I guess Paul Allen decided he needed to show off his power again.

Pritchard and Penn got the royal screw job in Portland. It was all about Paul Allen's ego and a clash with Warren LeGarie (agent for both Pritchard and Penn).

Here's a good time line and connect the dots on how things played out.

Figures. Allen is just another wealthy guy, who thinks he can do better in a field he isn't an expert in.

Lon Babby expected to be named Suns GM tomorrow.

Because having former agents in the front office making organizational decisions worked out so well for the D-backs...well, if you're Eric Byrnes, anyway. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Not really a Suns thing, but it concerns the upcoming NBA labor issues.
