Following up on the Patric McManus bestseller, Steve Gilberts takes questions from north of the border... with Mexico.

Quote:
Will the owners open the purse strings this offseason and go get a pitcher like Jake Westbrook, Barry Zito, Scott Kazmir or Mark Mulder? We need another pitching combination like Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling in the rotation to win another World Series.
-- Luis E., Tucson

Could the Diamondbacks sign Frank Thomas?
-- David D., Phoenix

I think that the Frank Thomas-Isiah Thomas combo would do miracles for the Phoeniz Coyotes. Git R Done, Josh Byrnes.

Blessed is Steve Gilbert who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children...

Maybe a combo of Drew and Quentin could land us the Big Hurt? Shocked

Amazing question. Rolling Eyes

If we're gonna sign DHs, might as well go get Barry Bonds...

But Clark is our late inning defensive specialist. Rolling Eyes

I feel for Steve Gilbert, I really do. Poor guy has to go through hundreds of stupid emails from clueless fans everyday and then come up with coridal answers to these stupid questions. I don't know how he does it.

What's really sad is that of the five questions, the one that stands out as a good question is the one asked by the guy from Washington, D.C. I think the Arizona people went 0 for 4.

I sent Steve a thought provoking question about what we needed to do to solidify the bullpen before last season, which he failed to answer. A week or so later he wrote this article about how the club had a lot of faith in all the young bullpen arms. We know that didn't turn out too good.

2005 Bullpen

Steve does pick some of the dumbest questions to answer. It's almost a waste of time to read the mailbag columns. I did my part to try and help out.

If I had Steve's job, I'd get fired after my first Q&A session hits cyberspace.
