With the Dbax loss and the Mets win, the 2 clubs are now tied for the 6th worst record heading into the final game. Anybody know what the tiebreaker would be if they finished with identical records?

Per Kieth Law on espn insider, the Dbax will have the 6th selection.

Between the number of high selections we had last draft and the position plus additional picks in the upcoming draft, our farm system should be on the rise.

Assuming the draft picks turn out... Confused

Oh wow, I didn't know the Dbacks were actually competing to get this kid. I actually went to the same high school with him, but I graduated a little bit before he arrived, I have met him on a few occasions though because I have been helping out with the AutoCAD classes the since I graduated in '06.

He can usually be found at the Triple-A Stadium throwing out the first pitches. Also to clear up the Yankee pinstripes thing, he just wants to play for the Yanks for the money and the glory, down to Earth he's a Dodger fan though, but he sees himself taking Posada's place behind the plate making the $150million in the Bronx.

Interesting read from Morosi at Fox re: Mauer's vs. Harper's paths:

Quote:
Harper is probably a nice kid. I don't know. I've never met him. But I am certain of this: Right now, he is one terrible role model. And that has nothing to do with the fact that he was recently ejected from a game for taunting.

In baseball, "staying in school" used to refer to college juniors who elected not to sign and instead returned for their senior years. But here comes Harper, bolting from high school before he could park with the upperclassmen.

It's not right. But it's legal under the current basic agreement. If baseball isn't careful, Harper might inspire a legion of followers and few, if any, will possess the same ability. That is bad for the game and worse for the kids. They will be like the teenagers who skipped college to chase their hoop dreams only to wind up with the Fargo-Moorhead Beez.

Nice long article

Um, does this guy know how many HS kids are drafted every year? Seriously, how much chance is there that there is going to be a big wave of kids skipping HS and getting a GED so they can sign faster? The path to the pros is so much different in baseball than other sports. Much ado about nothing.

Nothing personal... but Morosi is dumber than 10 of LaSorda's dogs.

Agreed, Moroni is being dumb. Harper will be set for life and have massive opportunities for the rest of his life because he came out early. He can even go to college while he's a minor league ballplayer, or just enjoy himself by dating a different college girl every night (something owning a Ferrari definitely will help with).

Mauer is Mauer. If Harper is a rockhead, another year of school ain't going to change him, if he's smart, he'll find avenues to get educated and pursue his interests.

And he got it all wrong in the first sentence, taunting is being a bad role model, not being so successful at his chosen sport that he can become a multimillionaire before he turns 18.

BTW, I know some kids who got into a profession where they made hundreds of thousands of dollars a year by the time they graduated high school, so they skipped college. Despite some bumps in the road, they are both doing very well.

Jonathon Mayo gives his first full scouting report on Harper and seems to love just about every aspect of Harper's game.

That's a free agency thing.
Nats fail to sign Harper (which they won't), they would get pick #2 next year.
Which means if we have the #2 worst record, we would have pick #3.

Also, I'm pretty sure that isn't his real facebook... not that it really matters.

It's all speculation until August 15th.

Not that any of this matters. Arizona wouldn't pay top dollar for a prospect with this new regime. They don't want another Upton!

Bingo.
This is the guy that said Strasburg was going to the Independent Leagues, then said he was going to move to Japan and become an international free agent. Don't take anything he says seriously.

Harper will sign with the Nats. Boras has the best leverage to get a monster deal for Harper right now and wont want to waste it. The Nats know they would get destroyed for letting Harper slipping through their fingers so will do all they can to sign him.
