The Dbacks today signed one of the best prospects available in this years internatial free agency (IFA) period in Venezuelan CF prospect Yorman Garcia, as reported by Ben Badler of Baseball America

http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/?p=9399

Garcia, considered the 13th best prospect in the IFA by BA, is considered to have a wiry and projectable body is a plus, plus runner and a line drive hitter. Though initialy thought able to command one of the highest bonuses in the IFA,we are believed to have signed him for a low six figure bonus which would be considered a coup if confirmed.

Im really happy with this signing as this is the type of signing id hoped the Dbacks would pursue and hope this the first of a few signings the dbacks make this year in the IFA.

Quote:
4. Yorman Garcia, CF, Venezuela
6-2 and 175 and he has outstanding speed. He’ll add some power as he fills out.

He did but the Mateo signing was an exceptional case considering how things fell before we signed him so i wouldnt necessarily put him as a normal IFA signing. He was more a case of us willing to give him a second chance rather after most of the MLB club turned their backs on him rather then us beating teams to his signing which is what normally happens in the IFA.

In Garcia's case for example teams like the Mariners, Reds, Yankees and others were reportedly interested in him before the IFA period began this year.

I know same here, i was literally pleading for us to enter the IFA market only an hour before the signing was made public by Ben Badler.

I just really hope the Dbacks go after their supposed primary target entering the July 2nd signing period, which is OF Wilmer Romero. He is purportedly a five tool outfield prospect with serious power and very good general hit tools. We'd have stiff competition from the Yankees and a few others but this is the guy id like us to really sign.

Nick has mentioned in one article that we had 2 more IFA signings waiting on approval? Anyone know anything on that or if they could be possible big splashes?

These are awaiting approval from the commissioner's office according to Nick, which is often a delay caused by investigations of age and identity that now need to be done on every player since this has become a problem area in that part of the world.

The two players are likely not players that were part of the group of latino players have failed drug tests, so i would not expect there being a problem in eventually getting the signings approved. According to BaseballAmerica there are a large number of deals being processed by the commissioners office this year with the increase in investigations. I think MLB has to find a way of streamlining this process.
