Dan Hayes / San Diego North County Times today wrote:
SAN DIEGO ---- The Padres will reportedly interview Jed Hoyer of the Boston Red Sox for their vacant general manager opening.

Multiple baseball sources believe Hoyer, Boston's assistant general manager, is the top choice of Padres CEO Jeff Moorad to fill the job vacated by Kevin Towers, who was fired earlier this month. On Tuesday - nearly 48 hours after the Red Sox were swept out of the American League playoffs by the Los Angeles Angels - the Boston Globe reported that the Padres have received permission from Boston to interview Hoyer.

Both Hoyer and Red Sox GM Theo Epstein declined to comment or confirm the Globe's report via e-mail on Tuesday. Moorad and Boston CEO Larry Lucchino didn't respond to e-mails seeking comment. Earlier this month, Moorad said he hoped to have a new GM in place by the end of October, and Boston's exit from the postseason could help to expedite those plans.

Ah, our good ol' buddy Moorad, giving contracts to crappy players and letting good players go. This is the only time I will say this in my life: I sincerely feel sorry for Padres fans.

Dan Hayes / North County Times last night wrote:
The Padres scratched pitcher Jon Garland from his scheduled Sunday start, opting to proceed cautiously as their biggest offseason acquisition battles what they call a "cranky shoulder."

Manager Bud Black announced shortly after the Padres' 4-1 split-squad win over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday afternoon that Sean Gallagher will start in Garland's place Sunday.

"We're going to give (Garland) a few days just as a precaution," said Black, who didn't say when Garland will return.

Garland, who is expected to man the No. 2 or 3 spot in the Padres' starting rotation, signed a $4.7 million contract in January that includes a $600,000 buyout if a mutual option for 2011 isn't picked up.

Garland, who is 0-1 with an 8.22 ERA in three starts this March, has repeatedly said this spring that his arm had been feeling better than normal.

Jeffy now owns 50%.

Lets hope the sale of the Dodgers is as messed up after that divorce too.

Yup. Was one of the four arms in the Peavy trade. He's got solid mid-rotation potential, especially pitching in Petco.

Seven innings one hit the Dodgers tonight Shocked

Just checking up on this guy and he has been dealing lately. Shocked

Had he thrown one less inning last season, Mat Latos would be eligible for RoY voting against Strasburg, Heyward, et al.

Tonight he lowered his WHIP to 0.963 over 99 2/3 IP with 91 K's on the season; he should at the very least be an All-Star selection. Not bad for the 22-year old.

Look like Jeffys ownership group is buying the Portland AAA team and hoping to move them closer to SD.

I think I read they might even play at a college stadium?

Hey who can he buy this team? Doesnt he still owe us money for his ownership stake here?

Sounds like this guy can run a hell of a shell game.

He has 4 years to come up with the money to buy the Pads too.
