Gonzo on the radio KTAR this morning. Much better job than when he does color on the games.

Some interesting tidbits.

Said the DBACKS clubhouse is divided and needs to be fixed.

Also said game six 2001 World Series Andy Pettitte was tipping his pitches.

Good stuff.

Is this a divide that has to be fixed by getting rid of players?
Who is causing the divide?

I doubt he would actually say who. My guess is Reynolds, Webb and Snyder are still pissed about BoMel's firing and the hiring of Hinch. Hinch's firing did nothing to dissolve the situation. It could also be the FO they are mad at.

Or should I say mR27, BW17 and CS19? Wink

That can easily be fixed by putting a line of tape down across the middle of the locker room. You stay on your side and I stay on mine.

Divide did not say who or what.

Tipping pitches i believe he said the finger hole on his glove when he had it pressed against the glove fastball coming. Loose on the glove off speed. Said they had great scouting reports on the Yankee pitcher.

80's sitcoms showed us that although it sounds like a good idea, it never actually works out.

Yes, I know this. It was more... wondering aloud.

He also alluded to his "disappointment" in Jeff Moorad. Pretty interesting show this morning.

Aww, the clubhouse is divided? Good. It makes me think at least a few of the players care.

I am sure management is planning arts and crafts time and some team building excercises complete with group hugs.

I have a feeling we aren't talking about a '78 Yankees divided clubhouse.

It is a bunch of pansies blaming someone else for why they suck.

I remember hearing at the time that someone on the D-backs staff picked up on it by watching videos of Pettite after his first series start.

Well, I was one year old and I still know the story of the 78 Yankees.

You should look them up, or Netfix the series "The Bronx Is Burning" that was on ESPN a couple years ago.

Definitely proves a cohesive clubhouse full of guys who all like each other and their manager is not needed to win.

Thanks. I knew about the Steinbrenner-Jackson-Martin feud but I didn't know the year. The only thing that jumps to mind about '78 and the Yankees is Bucky Dent's HR.

On Pettitte, Gonzo said there were alot of teams that didn't want the Yankees to win so they were getting "free scouting" from many different sources. I would assume that this means other AL teams were helping the DBacks and clued them in on how Pettitte was tipping pitches.

I bet Qualls is part of the players causing problems in the clubhouse.

I suspect that's why he chose the San Diego series to have his number retired at Chase.

Actually, it was 1977. The year of my birth and I got it wrong.

Embarassed

I don't fully believe that. I'm sure the players feel bad for him, because I believe Qualls is working hard and things just aren't happening.
