A snowball's chance: NJ picked for 2014 Super Bowl

Quote:
February. Gray skies. Snowflakes. Brrrrrrrr.

Well, grab your boots and plow the snow. The Super Bowl is coming to the Meadowlands.

In New Jersey? In the dead of winter?

"We'll all pray that it doesn't snow that day," Arizona Cardinals president Michael Bidwill said.

NFL owners voted Tuesday to put the 2014 Super Bowl in the new $1.6 billion Meadowlands Stadium that this season will become home to the New York Jets and Giants. It's the first time the league has gone to a cold weather site that doesn't have a dome; until now, those places couldn't even bid on the big game.

I have a feeling it's gonna be a good 'un.
Bad weather games seem to always be the most exciting ones.

i hate this!

i hope this is a disaster! i want freezing rain, snow, wind, ice, snow, snow, ice, WIND..... you name it i want it....

you play the biggest game in the sports (in the usa) and you run the risk of having weather play a factor into it.

imagine if the pats/giants SB was played in cold weather, or wind or snow ect.. all you would hear is that the weather is why the pats lost, not the fact the NYG kicked thier ass

furthermore..
NFL said this is a ONE time deal waving the temp rule. WHY? so you have a different rule for the NY/NJ area but not new england or pittsburgh or washington (and that lil bastard already said he wants the game) Im sure the city of Chicago would like 1.5 billion $$$$ in tourist money come in for that week of the game.

FWIW...i think the commish "waived" this rule "one time" so that he can "waive" it again when HE wants the SB in London... if you dont think that is not coming, you just dont pay attention that close to the NFL

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,517750,00.html

what the NFL should do is this....

you want to get back in the LA market, but the people of LA wont vote to pass the taxes to pay for it... SHOCKER you have not played a game in LA in 15 years!!! you have not had a SB there in 18 years!! (how about a preseason game there once or twice a year) there are kids in that city that are in high school that have not seen a game in thier home town!! NFL needs to be smart and stop trying to line the pockets of every owner that builds a stadium (dal, Indy, NY/NJ 3 of the next 4 sites).

Have the game at the rose bowl one year and at the LA coliseum the next... YES back to back SB in the LA area. I know there are no lux boxes, and i know no current owner plays in these places to get extra $$$$. but back to back super bowls in LA area might go along way to show LA that the NFL would LOVE to get back there and is extending the olive branch for it. how about taking some of that $$ that is made from the both SB and using it to help build that new stadium that is needed to get that new team (or moving team... JAX ANYONE)

Sounds great to me as long as the Bears are in it -- it'll be just like another home game! Cool

Were the Jets getting to the AFC Championship game a fluke or are they really contenders for the SB?

Good. They need to dethrone the Pats. I hate them, they're like the Yankees.
